Tapoco is a small unincorporated community in North Carolina on the border with Tennessee. It is northwest of Robbinsville and derives its name from the Tallahassee Power Company.
 
Tapoco is nestled among the most beautiful trees found in the Great Smoky mountains and the Nantahala Forest. The historic Tapoco lodge is situated here. In 1913, when workers were building the hydroelectric dams, this was their residence. The lodge has remained unchanged since  1930. The Tin Can Theater was a destination as a community center, dance hall, and party space for the numerous locals going off to World War II.
